I'm picking up, and heading myself over to WordPress. Time for a bit of flexibility, and maybe to make some moolah! Peace out weebly!

As you open the lids of your eyes from their sweet slumber, The World will demand that you close the doors on your deepest dreams. As you lift your head from the pillow which softly cradles the hopes and visions that sweep over you in your reverie, The World will assert that you shake off your aspirations and send them back to the clouds from which they flew. It will insist that as you wash away the sleep from your eyes, so must you drown your wistful longings, turning your head the other way so you are not moved to rescue each dying Could Have Been that gasps for air. The World will ask you to put on your dress of conformity and pay no mind to its shapeless, soulless restraint. And with every single sunrise it will be up to you to say No to that world. It will be up to you to say Yes to yourself. And it will take every ounce of soul power to keep to that commitment."
I'm so excited to show you my favourite movie ... ever! Okay, so maybe I'm a little biased (or like, a million times biased), but Janelle Huopalainen did the most amazing job of capturing my favourite day.
And seriously, how cute is Trevor? I can't get enough of his squishy little face!!
It's true is true. The wedding was amazing, the honeymoon was just perfect. And now, I'm back to reality! To be honest, I've been back for a few weeks. But there's something about getting back into reality - full time work, crossfit, Young Life, and now this new wife thing. It's been hard to find a routine of this new normal life. All I know, is it's jammed packed with wonderful things.
Our wedding day was May 28th. After weeks and weeks of scorching hot, beautifully sunny weather, God decided it was time to change things up. So we got married on the only rainy day in May. (Okay, that might not be 100% true, but I like to exaggerate, so humour me). Here's a little sneak peak of my favourite day. Video, Reviews, and Thank You's coming soon.
Like many many females I find myself with an unexplainable love for writing in cute notebooks. No, this isn't just limited to females, but lets be honest ... how many guys do you find wandering aimlessly around chapters for hours on end? That's what I thought.
Here are my top three favourite journal/notebook/cute pieces of paper to write in.
Lately things have been chaotic. The wedding is 19 days away, work is crazy (beautiful, but crazy), and we've had some tough personal news. So as I usually do when life gets to be a lot to handle, I turn to humour. So I present to you an article that guides my attitude in my workplace. How to Become the Alpha of Your Office - - - "When your rival receives a birthday cake, offer to cut it. Whistle a cheery tune as you slowly cut out the piece with your rival’s name on it. Eat it with your fingers as you walk away." - - - Note: this does not represent me at work, not even a little. It is however hilarious, so for that I approve wholeheartedly. Exactly one month until the wedding, and I've only had two official freak outs. Someone told me I get three (I can't remember who this someone is ... but I'm very thankful for them!) So one more and I'm all good, right?
But in reality. I am so excited. To finally hangout with my best friend every day, I don't think life gets much better than that. Right now we're busy looking at readings for the wedding, and these are my two favourites so far. What do you guys think? 1. C.S. Lewis - Mere Christianity “Knowledge can last, principles can last, habits can last; but feelings come and go... But, of course, ceasing to be "in love" need not mean ceasing to love. Love in this second sense — love as distinct from "being in love" — is not merely a feeling. It is a deep unity, maintained by the will and deliberately strengthened by habit; reinforced by (in Christian marriage) the grace which both partners ask, and receive, from God... "Being in love" first moved them to promise fidelity: this quieter love enables them to keep the promise. It is on this love that the engine of marriage is run: being in love was the explosion that started it.” 2. Frederick Buechner “It is a world of magic and mystery, of deep darkness and flickering starlight. It is a world where terrible things happen and wonderful things too. It is a world where goodness is pitted against evil, love against hate, order against chaos, in a great struggle where often it is hard to be sure who belongs to which side because appearances are endlessly deceptive. Yet for all its confusion and wildness, it is a world where the battle goes ultimately to the good, who live happily ever after, and where in the long run everybody, good and evil alike, becomes known by his true name....That is the fairy tale of the Gospel with, of course, one crucial difference from all other fairy tales, which is that the claim made for it is that it is true, that it not only happened once upon a time but has kept on happening ever since and is happening still.” If you would have told me I would be travelling across North America for work within six months of graduation, I probably would have laughed in your face.
I've always been so driven to succeed, but never had the drive to work up a corporate ladder. I knew I never wanted to be small fish in a big pond, but rather I aimed of being a small fish in a small pond, and working up from there. Tomorrow I leave for SCAA 2016 in Atlanta, Georgia. After what will likely be the most chaotic 12 hours of travelling with my dear friend, and fellow airplane-hater, Jenna, we will land in the ATL. I'm excited to be travelling to a conference where I will grow personally and professionally. I'll be taking classes in Brewing & Extraction (yes friends, I'll make you a cup of coffee whenever you want) and attending lectures on Social Media and Packaging Design. I'm nervously excited to travel for business. I mean, that's such a grown up thing! I'll keep you updated on the amazing things I learn, and all the freebies I hope to get (What's a conference without freebies, right). Cheers. Let's be honest, I'm not an English Major. In fact, I'm not even close. My spelling is wildly terrible, my grammar lacks a lot ... and I'm just not, okay! But what I can offer to the world of writing is this: three words that make you sound like a worse writer than you actually are. By searching for these three words in my articles, interviews, social media posts, and emails, I'm able to systematically eliminate the things that make me sound ridiculous. 1. Just
This one has been my favourite to eliminate. The word "just" makes you seem apologetic, which I am most certainly not! (Okay, sometimes I am, I'm still a Canadian ... sorry!) But throwing "just" in front of your sentences makes you seem like you don't want to bother someone. Especially in a sales position, this needs to get thrown out the window! Listen to the difference: "Hey Angela, I just wanted to say thanks for hosting us at the conference last week" vs "Hey Angela, I wanted to say thanks for hosting us at the conference last week". DUH, the word "just" is always unnecessary! Sidenote: yes, I realize when talking about if something is "just" or "right" it's a useful word. So if you're a lawyer, don't throw the baby out with the bathwater! 2. Super This one's for all of you who didn't pay attention in English 9. The word "super" conveys one thing to me: that you can't be bothered to go to thesaurus.com. Seriously! Super sad - no, you mean devastating. Super big - do you mean gigantic? If you find yourself throwing "super" in front of a word, go ahead and find a better word. You can do it, I believe in you! Sidenote: if and when "super" must be used, please make sure it's followed up by "duper", 'cause thats just plain funny. 3. Ciao This one is for a dear coworker, friend, and honourary sister. Chantelle I'm telling you publicly for the last time, stop saying "Ciao"! You are not Italian, I am not Italian, and it isn't middle school. (Am I the only one who was obsessed with saying "ciao" in middle school? Unless you live in Italy, or frequently find yourself conversing with Italians, I think we can all agree that "Ciao" just isn't right. I mean, its not fair to "Au Revoir" and "Auf Wiedersehen". So unless you're willing to throw in some other languages too, lets stick to English, especially in business contexts! |
